Notre Dame USC Tickets

Are you a Fighting Irish fan seeking tickets to a great rivalry game this season? Why not pick up Notre Dame USC tickets? Each and every time Notre Dame locks horns with Southern Cal, fans can rest assured that they will get their money's worth and that it will be a spirited, hotly contested game. Both teams will leave in all on the field. These two college football powers first met in 1927, and thus far the Irish have a 42-29-5 advantage in the all-time series. The two schools have met 31 times at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, with the Trojans coming away with losses in 21 of those match-ups. And the prize awarded to the winner of this epic annual clash? That would be the legendary Shillelagh, one of the most prized rivalry awards in all of college football.

Notre Dame USC Tickets: The Legend of the Shillelagh

So what is the Shillelagh, and what is the award that those who pick up Notre Dame USC tickets see awarded to the game's winner all about? Historically speaking, a shillelagh is a wooden battle club that traces its roots back to Ireland. In terms of the trophy, the original shillelagh was approximately a foot long, and is adorned with a team-specific logo at the end of each game. For Southern Cal, it is a Trojan head, and for Notre Dame, it is a shamrock. For each of the five ties that occurred during the series history, a joint, combined symbol was used. It was first handed out in 1952 by the Notre Dame Alumni Club based in the city of Los Angeles, though past victories were added to the trophy. The original award was retired following the 1989 game, and is currently on display at South Bend. A new, slightly larger version of the award was introduced starting in 1990.
