ND Penn State Tickets

Not many current football fans have had the opportunity to ever pick up ND Penn State tickets, and for good reason. The two schools haven't played in over a decade. The rivalry, if you can call it that, between the two schools began on November 8, 1913 in a game held at South Bend. Notre Dame won that contest, 14-7. From 1981 through 1992, the teams met in 12 consecutive seasons. Penn State won eight of those games, but the Irish claimed victory in the final game, held on November 14, 1992 at Notre Dame Stadium. The following year, the Nittany Lions joined the Big Ten and the series went by the wayside, with both teams posting eight wins and one tie in the 17 game set. However, the two storied universities, both of which rank in the top five in all-time NCAA Division I-A wins, will meet again starting in 2006. The Irish will host a game on September 9 of that year, and will journey to State College on September 8, 2007.

ND Penn State Tickets: Other Aspects of the Rivalry

Yet, while football fans have been shut out of the Fighting Irish-Nittany Lion rivalry, there have been ND Penn State tickets available for other sporting events. In many other sports, the rivalry is as strong as ever. For example, in 2000 one student athlete told The Observer Online, the student newspaper of Notre Dame, that when her team locked horns with Penn State, they meant business. "We not only want to win," she said, "we want to whip them and completely crush them especially at our home meet." That sport? Fencing. You see, at that time, Notre Dame had finished second in the NCAA Championships for four consecutive years, with Penn State winning the title in each of those seasons. The Nittany Lions won in 2002, while the Irish won their sixth championship in 2003. And in head to head match-ups, the two schools have gone back and forth in some tough battles, with Penn State holding a slight edge in recent competition. It may not be football, but there is nonetheless a heated rivalry that exists between these two fine fencing programs.
